All rights reserved "Humility demands we also remember that John Maynard Keynes was right on one thing--"in the long run we are all dead!" i'm not surprised that the first economist you quote is the insufferable Keynes. that little ditty about the 'long run' is incredibly stupid ( it was his retort to classical economists warning that short-sighted populist economic policies such as those advocated by Keynes would have very negative long range effects ) . the 'long run' is ALWAYS with us, as we suffer NOW from the policies implemented in the distant past. it is btw. completely wrong to focus on what has been achieved IN SPITE of the founding of the central planning agency known as the Fed in 1913 ( a.k.a. a 'straw man' ) , rather we should focus on what we have FAILED to achieve because of it. my guess from the gut would be that without fiat money global economic output would be about 50% larger now than it actually is and technologically we would be about 20-30 years ahead. i can't prove it of course, but i do know that fiat money inflation constantly diminishes the pool of real funding, and it follows that we are falling further and further behind because of it. a good example of the decay produced by central economic planning can be found by looking at what TOTAL planning achieved in 7 decades of communism in the FSU and 4 decades in its European satellites. after German reunification, it turned out that the 'best' of the planned economies, the GDR, was nothing but a Potemkin village. it was like an apple that had been completely eaten up by worms from the inside. all its accounting had been fraudulent. the fiat money system makes the CORE of our economic system fraudulent as well. it is a form of State Capitalism insofar as the commercial banks are in bed with the State to make it happen. it means we have no true economic liberty. therefore, all our achievements, as proud as they may be, pale against what we COULD have achieved. All rights reserved i have a good idea that will help you to test the success of the policies you support. travel to free Iraq and go from door to door. ask the freshly liberated what they think. let us know how happy they now are...report on the successful rebuilding of the country, with examples and photographs. if you survive the drive from the airport to the city that is. should you find out that Iraq is in need of more liberating, don't hesitate to do your bit. the armed forces will happily accept volunteers. one hears they are a few hands short here and there of late. you have nothing to fear, since everything is reportedly hunky dory over there. if you don't believe me, ask the president, he will confirm it. All rights reserved true, the attempt to take over IAG turned out to be a disaster, but imo the basic idea wasn't all that bad. i'm sure we would view it a lot differently if they had actually pulled it off. the mistake was that they should have realized that it wasn't possible to steal IAG at the time, and should have concentrated on achievable goals instead. it was a gamble and they lost - but that's water under the bridge now.
