slacks - Doesn't sound like Reliance cares one way or the other if it keeps cdma. I guess there is a chance that Sprint might chose Flarion, Telstra is gone, Brazil doesn't sound very promising.

So quite a bit depends on w-cdma....hope those patents are water tight. No wonder the stock has dropped over 20% the gilt is wearing off.

Best,

L

LISBON, June 30 (Reuters) - Brazilian wireless carrier Vivo (VIVO4.SA: Quote, Profile, Research), jointly owned by Portugal Telecom (PT) (PTC.LS: Quote, Profile, Research) and Spain's Telefonica (TEF.MC: Quote, Profile, Research), will develop a GSM platform by Christmas, PT CEO Henrique Granadeiro said on Friday. Vivo will maintain CDMA technology as well, Granadeiro said.

"Vivo decided to evolve its technological platform, maintaining CDMA, and having GSM available before Christmas," Granadeiro said. "After that, the intention is to migrate both technologies to third generation."

Granadeiro said the necessary competitions to install the GSM systems will be launched in an investment plan that will extend over three years.

"We will become a company with two technologies," Granadeiro said, adding it will be up to clients to chose between CDMA or GSM services.
