You don't think political gain for his party as well as for himself could be a factor in his choice of subjects and positions? I don't really think the President of the United States, with all on his plate, would spend valuable time taking a position on some of these issues if it was not seen as helping other republicans.

Or maybe I'm just naive.

gw could care less about who gets elected to congress in november, and whether his policies get gutted, and whether he gets to sit in the royal impeachment chair next january
