That's what I thought. So why isn't this a good thing?

Because Bush had the right to handle this under his war powers. The SC ruled otherwise. It gave more power to Congress vs the Presidency.

Politically, it will work out fine. It makes an issue of it for the upcoming election, and a bill will be passed allowing Bush to do as was planned.

The other part of this that hurts is that the SC says that it they cannot be tried by a secret tribunal where all evidence is released to the defendent and his lawyer. This means Bush will have to make a decision. Reveal info he does not want out, or let some of them go?

He will probably decide to let some go. But they will not be totally released. They will be shipped back to the Afghan Government to be tried. Who don't use our system, and who will do God knows what with them.
