Thank you! It would be unfortunate if the US became a 1 party country. debate and disagreement across parties is good.

From that piece on the Birchers, this is a terrific line that I clipped for future use: "irritable mental gestures which seek to resemble ideas."

Hate to say it Bill, but looking at some of the saner center and left of center boards on SI, your posts are certainly not the worst. Indeed, compared to some I've seen, even by the so called centerists, yours don't hold a candle to try to inflame.

For any who might dispute that, all they have to do is look around at the Coffee Shop Political boards....

But, I'm sure we all got your point. Your board here is a refuge, and we want to keep it that way.

I must keep the paragraph below in mind whenever I get frustrated over what I perceive as a lack of sound judgement and level-headedness on the part of the left.

If only they could produce a sane leader who could articulate a clear direction and clarify for me....and I think a vast majority of others........where they stand on the issues I care most about I might take them seriously. Of course it must be difficult when there are so many factions within the party with different objectives....and I say that in all seriousness. I don't doubt that most democrats are as patriotic as the next American, but when your party is identified more by pretentious flamers......Kennedy, Dean, Kerry, Clinton.........and the ignorant.......people like Natalie Maines and a vast majority of Hollywood elites..........rather than rational people with ideas people can get their hearts and minds around, it will continue to be shunned and ignored.

Please....rational, articulate dems where are you?

I think there are allot of dems who are embarrassed and as frustrated as I am, but I also think there are allot of average dems that buy into the personal destruction propaganda too. I do not think conservatives have all of the answers, and I do love and cherish a two party system. But until rational dems take back their party, engage in constructive dialog without attacking, attacking, attacking, and offer a more rational approach to our nation's problems as well as this war we are fighting, I will continue to denounce and condemn what I see as a dangerous and fruitless course.

To the left, it's all very exciting, and all very new. And so we see the self-proclaimed netroots go through a trajectory very much like what the BIRCHers went through, albeit in highly compressed time. The elements are all there: the resentment, the conspiracy-mindedness, and especially the leaders with stupefyingly poor judgment married to Napoleon complexes. I've noted before that they are "frank proponents of outright mimicry of the mechanisms of GOP ascendacy." Add to this the horrifying, alienating statements ranging from the mockery of dead Americans at war to the derision of political opponents' personal sorrows. Add to this the demonization of the very people who should, in a sane world, be their friends — The New Republic chief among them — and the formula is complete. Messianism and paranoia marry to make this.
