Exactly - all it takes is the talk shows repeating the clip to prove "here is what he said" and then pound it into the dittoheads for the next three hours. I heard Kerry's clip where he tried to equate terrorism to ordinary crime and it was an honest point, but it came across quite differently from what he intended.

I just don't think a Chicken Little approach to GW is going to convince anyone except the activists. Preaching to the choir, not the center.

Unfortunately, it was lower order gaffes like these that were spun up in 2000 to make Gore appear to be serially dishonest, while at the same time giving GWB pass after pass on much bigger ones.

I agree but these particular gaffes could have been guarded against. I just don't think they are serious.

The GWB campaign crew, however, that took the internet quote and simply lied about it, now that's something a candidate like Gore can't keep from happening (the basic Rove style of campaigning which is now simply generic) but is measured by how he reacts to it. Unfortunately, his advisors said to ignore it. Much the same as Kerry's advisors did about the swift boating stuff in 04.
