They may be paying more because the coverage is better with GSM, and the coverage is better with GSM because they have more spectrum in more places, and they may have more spectrum in more places because of the bribes and political machinations of the Euronuts. So yes, the consumer is king, he he reviews the menu put before him, but the menu is not necessarily an apples to oranges comparison of technology.

In India, it isnt the breadth of coverage but rather the depth that is the issue with regards to spectrum. Reliance has actually been fairly aggressive on extending coverage to the villages.

Same holds in Brazil, remember Vesper not being allowed to build out in the 1900 Mhz spectrum that was purchased? That left big holes in CDMA coverage around Sao Paulo.

Vivo has coverage in the vast majority of Brazil.

How about Mexico? Telefonica took over Pegaso, converted it to GSM and subscriber growth took off. OTOH, Iusacell is still struggling.

Argentina?

At least for me, the numbers are just too broad based to ignore. India is actually the best example of CDMA competing with GSM in a developing country. The numbers are generally even worse elsewhere.

Good thinking. Good points. Add to this a concentrated nationalistic effort by some officials to spread bad data to pose QCOM and CDMA as the villain.
