Bushies are SO-SO DISHONEST and lie to much. They target the NY Times but ignore the much larger Wall Street Journal which covered the same story. Why? Because the Wall Street Journal leans to the rightwing in its editorial pages, whereas the NY Times leans more liberal. So this is all partisan BS as usual, and the rightwing's continued effort to try and dominate the media and DISinform the American people.

The NY Times also has top conservative writers btw, the their only big mistake is recent years was believing a word Cheney-Bush-Rove said on WMD. They had to retract all those stories. The White House manipulated the Ny Times into lying, then used those same quotes on the talkshows to "prove" Saddam had WMD and AL Qaida contacts. Bushie lies on top of lies.

All fascists and communiists attack the news media's freedom to report what the government is really doing.

When our government starts blaming the messengers for reporting the truth (or actually just a fraction of the truth since the whole truth would get Bushies all thrown in prison) then we know our democracy is under seige.

Also, I seem to remember Nixon trying to charge the NY Times and Daniel Ellsberg with "treason" for leaking the Pentagon Papers. Those Papers showed that the Vietnam War was based on a big fat lie and continued on and on based on more lies and coverups, and that they kept waging the war long after they knew it was senseless, pointless, unwinnable and counter-productive. The same is probably true with the Iraq occupation. We certainly know it was waged on a pack of lies to begin with.

"Our liberty cannot be guarded but by the freedom of the press, nor that be limited without danger of losing it." --Thomas Jefferson to John Jay, 1786.

Jefferson went on and on about how a strong, independent free press capable of and willing to take on the White House and other politicians, who might otherwise conduct themselves without ethics or consideration for the public good, is the key to the American democracy.

Bush-Cheney-Delay and the rest is the most unethical, corrupt and arrogant government we have ever had. As a result, they especially need to be taken on and investigated by the press, but for the most part the press (and congress) has been derelict in their duty to check and balance the administration.
