Yes, but Dirty Harry knew that when he got hauled into court, he was going to lose his license or be put on a desk job, if not go to jail.

Doing what you have to do may be admirable but if you operate outside the bounds of the law your ass is grass.

Which is why heroes are lonely.

Nobody's going to throw a ticker tape parade for Dirty Harry.

It's more than that. That piece assumes going in that you're gonna do what you're gonna do. The question is whether you do it straightforwardly and accept the consequences or whether you weasel. Do you justify it by distorting principles out of cognitive dissonance, either conscious (aka spin) or unconscious, or do you carry the flag bravely. Carrying the flag bravely is what heroes do. As opposed to weasels.
