most of my old neighborhood friends still vote democrat. always have , same with those who are laborers or teachers.

then you get folks in city of philly who grew up there in south philly , everyone democrat.

it is more social, these people do not really get into politics , perhaps never read an editorial page or watch news much. they accept what the boston globe and or philly inquirer feeds them and most do not know what nyt is.

talk about reactions.. bush nailed his competition when the gov of ma. jumped into the tank with helmet to get his picture taken.. forget what he was running on, he looked so stupid no one would vote for him. bush killed him using that picture. kerry out on ocean in nantucket,, world coming down.. how many people can relate to nantucket or sailing?

a lot of times it never comes down to qualifications rather how the person looks... jfk played it well. bush played it well when Gore made an arse of himself coming over during debate and getting into his face. my first impression was, where is his head? would he do that during negotiations with a foreign gov.?

i expect much of same goes on in red states. born and raised republican and will die republican, right or wrong.
