I think my analogy comparing "idea" to "numbers between zero and one" is good.

I think gem feels that all possible ideas are already there, and that's very much like feeling that all possible numbers are already "there".

This question has been extensively studied by the brilliant mathatetitian Gregory Chaitin.

Chaitin has infact boiled down Gem's whole premise that there must be one absolute answer for the beginning of the universe (and for everything else I suspect) into the symbol Omega (the last symbol in Greek). Omega stands for the "final answer" in whatever field that might be.

Chaitin has some stern words for physicists. His message seems to be, "Get over the continuum already. The numbers aren't there, so the reality can't be there either."
