I don't know. Editorial discretion, lack of verisimilitude, lack of space, lack of interest, lack of need for a diversion from a previous editorial decision that did harm to newspaper's reputation. Any number of reasons can be imagined, but I don't pretend to be a mind-reader.

At the moment, some incredibly high percentage of the public (about 43% IIRC) actually considers the release of the SWIFT info as "treasonous."

As you have undoubtedly observed in the many vicious campaigns in recent years, both national and within your state, one of the primary goals is to demoralize the opposition and so demonize an opponent as to cause fence-sitters to either throw up their hands in disgust or select the least effectively demonized as the "least bad." It is an effective method in fields other than politics as well.
