I was lunching on a kabob at an Iranian place this afternoon when two women came in with a cardboard box full of merchandise. One woman wore a head scarf and said nothing. The other was your basic fast-talking salesperson. She was selling Vivitar binoculars that she said retailed for $100 for $10. The proprietors and several customers gave them an eager look-see. One commented that they didn't focus very well. She said with a straight face that it was probably just that a lot of people had handled her demonstrator model. No one bought. I guess they understood "too good to be true."
