You just rang the "way too simple to be valid" bell. You leapt from an assertion that only one branch of government, the executive, shouldn't have unfettered and unaccountable power to go beyond Constitutional and historical norms in the name of fighting a war with no clear enemy and no clear end, straight to restrictions created by another branch of government, the legislature (at federal and state levels), which have been held up by the courts and constitutional challenges.

Clearly you and I have very different notions of privacy. You don't seem to mind if I snoop on your telephone and business records just on the off chance there might be something related to a terrorist; but you are pissed off because a legislature that you helped to elect and probably voted for more than once has used their established powers to regulate how you operate a motor vehicle in public, acting on proven evidence that you are much less likely to end up a drain on the public health budget if you don't drive your skull through a windshield one day.

For me, that's an issue where I don't see reasonable grounds to objecting. But differences make a market, as they say.
