If I had a dollar for every person who defended the White House because Plame's ID was already "out" I'd take a cruise vacation and bring all my friends.

It wasn't just because she was already "out". It was because she wasn't actually covert and the damage done to national security was ZILCH. Not even the most ardent defender of the Wilsons could invent any damage done.

You could probably take your entire neighborhood along as well.

Personally, I think any fair-minded person would conclude that the NYTimes had taken the lessons of Plamegate to heart -- it's not a crime to publish a "secret" if it's not really a secret.

I don't think the New York Times itself would agree with that statement. Their decision to publish is consistent with similar decisions they have made throughout their history.
