It is not just New Orleans. All of the Gulf Coast from Beaumont all the way through Mississippi got pasted with one or the other hurricane. And most of them do vote Republican. There are entire towns that don't exist any more. Did you read the description of Lake Charles? Solidly blue collar, lot of refinery and port work. Only one place is selling Budweiser now. That little statistic tells a lot...

Edit: Actually all the way into Alabama, not just Mississippi.
