As you know, I have you bookmarked and, as a rule, click on your comments and follow the thread of your conversation wherever that leads. While doing that the other day, I ran across such an interesting comment that I was genuinely surprised when you didn't follow it up.

Because the comment sounded so unrealistic, I thought I'd look some facts up and post the results. After examining the records of every election since 1824 (popular vote totals being unavailable before then), only 5 Presidents have obtained 58% of the popular vote:

Warren G. Harding
Herbert C. Hoover
Franklin Delano Roosevelt (once - 1936)
Lyndon Baines Johnson
Ronald Reagan (once - 1984)

In fact, in Presidential politics, anything over about 52% has been considered a landslide. (That said, William McKinley's two victories with 51.0% and 51.7% of the popular vote respectively were considered landslides.)
