For some reason the NYTimes thought that the 42nd President, who never received a plurality of votes, had legitimacy. They also believe that the 43rd President, who received a plurality of votes, does not.

So is the secret to being legitimate not getting more than 50% of the votes or being a Democrat? Hmmm.
