What kind of rights did those two captured US soldiers receive from illegal combatants? They were mutilated and beheaded and then booby-trapped...

Don't see much outrage on your part about that...

Guess that's "just war"...

Nonsense, I'm very supportive of hunting down and killing the people that captured those two US soldiers. I happen to think that hunt and that execution is the responsibility of Iraqis, but as long as there are non-Iraqis there "supporting" the local police, I expect them to provide support.

Of course the two situations are not even close to the same, so I don't know why you want to equate them. As I said before we have no idea if the Gitmo detainees are even dangerous or if they ever pledged to harm American or what they have done or think. We know, in fact, almost nothing about them. That is outrageous. So we are left to "trust" that the determination that they are dangerous and if released would harm our interests was made correctly.

I doubt that invading Americans in Afghanistan with near zero ability to speak Arabic and Urdu and whatever other languages the detainees speak, and with close to zero experience in Afghanistan were able to determine who is a terrorist killer and who is an unfortunate tribesman in the wrong place at the wrong time. How would the Americans know? And if they did know, why can't they tell us? It's four years later - it's not like the detainees have any unrevealed secrets or explaining how they know the detainees are evil killers would expose undercover Afghan informants.

BTW - the rabbits comment was supposed to be a joke :-)
