>>Please note that it is NOT a "flag burning amendment". It is an amendment banning the "desecration of the flag." Which could mean that, if you are an anti-war protester and are merely holding up the flag as you march along, you could arrested for "desecrating" the flag.<<

That's a good point.

What bothers me about the current Republican initiatives for amending the Constitution is that they are mostly about restricting freedoms. The Bill of Rights and the Amendments have historically been aimed at preserving freedoms, not restricting them. One notable exception is the 18th Amendment, Prohibition. That was an Amendment designed to restrict individual freedom, but as we all know, it was later repealed.

The Constitution is not designed to allow some segments of society to control others, and to amend it for that purpose is contrary to the whole idea behind the founding of our nation.

I'd like to see Congress pass the "Every Vote Counts" Amendment, abolishing the obsolete Electoral College.

Very good point. Besides I would like to think that we Americans have a strong conviction in our values and even the destruction of an inanimate object such as the flag does not take our values away from us. Our values are ingrained in us and not in the flag, in how I think.

However, to look at the flag issue the way you have, such as marching with it in a peaceful demonstration against the government policies is very true and very bothersome to us.
