Rambus said on Wednesday that it has signed a patent license agreement with Toshiba that covers technology related to computer memory devices. Shares of Rambus, which licenses computer-related technologies to other companies, climbed $1.14, or 5 percent, to $23.91 in premarket trading on the Inet electronic brokerage system.

Rambus shares have risen 41 percent this year in volatile trading. In April, the company was awarded $307 million by a U.S. jury that found that South Korea's Hynix Semiconductor violated the company's memory chip patents. The patents covered in the Toshiba deal apply to devices known as SDRAM and DDR SDRAM memory controllers, Rambus said. Toshiba also licensed several interface designs, it added.
