I'm finding odd this notion that one can't express distress over an apparent rape-murder by soldiers in Iraq without adding a caveat about all the wonderful non-rape-murdererss who are serving there.

If someone expressed distress over OJ murdering his wife, would you expect that person to add the caveat that "of course there are millions of men who are wonderful husbands" or "of course there are millions of black people who are law abiding." That would be really dumb. Likewise expecting a caveat about the wonderful troops who serve in the area...

I'm also finding odd the notion that the fact that there are lots of rape-murders during wars somehow mitigates this one.
