I thought that the WSJ beat the NYT to the story? They'd get the Pulitzer then, right?

Well, if a US President says that he is going all out to get the leader of Al-Qaeda, dead or alive, and then he fades off the way he did, it surely is news.

And it is even worse if he folds the terrorist hunting machine and instead puts in place clandestine surveillance of Americans and robs them of the very rights granted to them by the US Constitution.

What, you don't support freedom and rights anymore on this day the 4th of July!!! You indulge in bashing the press who expose such plots such as the one hatched by Bush to deny Americans their freedom?

Bushies announced terrorist bank account crackdowns in 2003, including, as you can read here "strengthening laws" to go after suspect bank accounts more easily. state.gov

That is axactly what the Ny Times and WSJ articles were about. Personally, I didn't consider it news at all, much less something that hurts out war on terror. In fact, I doubt it will make a single bit of difference in catching a single terrorist.

The only real issue here is the fact Bush-Cheney continue skirting the mandatory FISA courts and congressional oversight laws, making them a criminal administration abusing their power. because there is no real excuse for it whatsoever. They could easily get FISA warrants for any legit terrorist bank account interdiction.
