This is the golden era, never have all American's had more wealth, equal opportunity and health. The ability to pursue and succeed a happy life for all Americans, and 12 million illegals it seems has never been better.

White Americans? Perhaps white American males had it the best, but then again divorced white women? How did they fair.

The only downside now compared to the 1950's is that then we where fighting an atheistic communistic group of tyrants who believed this was the only life. Now we are fighting lunatics who believe in a wonderful afterlife that is followed by killing non believers.

The chances of WMD being used against us seems much higher to me now.

We had Elvis and the '57 Chev. Life was good for middle class white America.

I happen to catch the tail end of a documentary made from Elvis's 1970 Vegas appearance on TMC last night. He would have been 36 then. He was into a white suit, but the belly was still fairly flat and his face was not bloated yet. It was right before the drugs really took over. He still "had" it. I came back from serving in the Army in Germany in '56 just as he hit the big time. The next 14 years was when he was at his height.

I notice that we had a couple of drop-in posters after Derek posted the comments about the making of Superman. I am glad I don't feel about this country the way they do. Miserable way to have to go though life.

The 50's IMHO were among the best of life in America. I grew up then, as you point out even to this day the 57 Chevy is my favorite alltime vehicle from the Corvette to the Bel Aire. We were IMHO far more patriotic, it was AMERICA FIRST kind of attitude, I dont recall these nasty political fights and constant bad mouthing. jdn
