Well, Nokia did not buy Flarion but they bought Intellisync for USD 430M aproximately at the same time. One could say that Nokia voted with their money for a non-proprietary technology rather than a proprietary one.

BTW, my interpretation of proprietary is a business model which is mainly based on royalty income from licensing proprietary technologies. While Nokia prefers to collect the money from end-customers.
