There is no difference between the basic chip price between CDMA and GSM if the die sizes are equal.

Engineer, thanks for the info on chip costs. One can only conclude that CDMA based systems are inherently LESS costly than GSM, including GSM upgrades, which in turn makes one wonder why a telecom service provider would have any reason to pursue GSM, other than its being a more accepted standard, even if it is becoming obsolete.
