Largely disagree. Reservoir management involves getting as much oil out of the reservoir as possible, production in early years largely unaffected so mismanagement not a factor.

With gold mine, you can lose money on a cash basis with mismanagement, each and every year, you can lose money just with lower grade ore being encountered. Also, many more employees to manage, much more logistics with your fleet, getting tires and other consumables, managing gold recovery, and even employee theft of your end product.

To this "untrained eye", a leftist dictator would much prefer nationalizing an oil well than a gold mine.
