>Stick to Isreal and the ME because broadening the discussion is not going to lead anywhere. I'm not proposing a universal law that determines which countries should exist and recommending it be applied across the globe.

Then why should it apply in the ME if it doesn't apply anywhere else?

It's difficult enough to discuss the Israel-Pal situation in any depth over a public discussion board. I don't want to discuss the Middle East, India-Pakistan, China-Tibet-Japan (??) and all the other hotspots in the world simultaneously (in the hopes of applying a one size fits all solution??) over a discussion board. It's way too broad, and a waste of time.

Why should majority opinion apply more to Israel-Pal than other places? Israel is a country which doesn't have accepted borders, was opposed by all its neighboring countries from the first day of its existence. and doesn't really have acceptance of its right to exist by the vast majority of the population which surrounds it. In that environment I think 201 million "no" votes versus 5 million "yeah" votes should certainly carry more weight than you appear to want to give it in discussing the question of whether it should be a country or not.

And if you want to bring in other countries to the discussion, the examples should be small enclaves that are surrounded by a large population that thinks the small enclave should NOT be in its current form. China and Japan are not even close to the Israel-Pal situation. The examples that are closest are perhaps Gibraltar (the Spaniards think its theirs), those Spanish enclaves inside Morrocco (which the Moroccans think are theirs), and probably Guantanamo Bay, which I'm sure the Cubans think is theirs.

Maybe that a good way to end the Gitmo detentions, just give it to the Cubans!
