And I was thinking she had probably seen the same polls that Lieberman had seen and that those probably showed he was in deep trouble. ;-) As others have said, it could be an attempted pay-off to the activist base, but, like you said, she could earn a lot of brownie points standing up for him (and she won't get many from the activists because of Iraq). So, I have to wonder what she knows.

The next clue will be to watch what the DSCC does. Up to now, they have stuck with Lieberman and said before that they will fund his primary campaign. His opponent can self-fund at will and that is always a dangerous thing. The DSCC is funding Bernie Sanders in Vermont even though he is not running as a Democrat (and there may even be a "sacrificial lamb" running as a Democrat in the general election). If the DSCC reneges on their pledge, and I'm beginning to think that may be a good bet now, then I have to think that Lieberman's ship has hit a submerged iceberg somewhere and is taking on water.

You are probably right. I think her political opportunism will trump her political savvy every time.
