When the regime collapses, China will probably occupy part or all of the contiguous northern part of NK and leave the rest for the US and SK. Then we will have 3 koreas for awhile.

VERY DOUBTFUL that the US, Japan, Russia, or S. Korea would stand for that.

Technically speaking, the UN cease-fire is still in effect and they remain seized of the matter of the NK/SK conflict from the 1950's. Thus, for China to claim they have the right to unilaterally occupy NK would create a sh*tstorm that would ABSOLUTELY lead to conflict, if only with S. Korea.

More than likely, it will be a joint UN authorized peace-keeping and nation-building mission with each of the 6 states neighboring NK all involved to protect their national security (and economic) interests.
