Retaliation in the US for Ericsson's suits filed in Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and the US over EDGE, GSM and GPRS patents in which they claim Samsung has failed to renew licences for Ericsson's technologies after over a year of negotiation?

It certainly looks like another move in that war. I'm still waiting for the complaint itself to be available so we can see exactly what products Samsung says are infringing. I looked at two of the patents at issue and they cover handoffs and turbo coding.

Samsung has built up a fair amount of IP on its own and you can be certain that they want to be admitted into the "IP club" where cross-licensing is the norm.

Hmmm....should I short all of the operators as the only handsets available for sale next summer might be TDMA handsets from Motorola <g>?
