Return compliment. Well said...

When one reads history about conquering armies it's always those troops who are the first to arrive in conquest who rape, murder and plunder... No one Army is different from another and when the officers don't get there first.. who is to supervise ?

The discipline of the military will cause many kids who are otherwise disposed to bad deeds to restrain themselves, but it can't stop them entirely, especially if a group of similarly minded people get together. But again, this is no different than what happens in street gangs in our cities.

You are missing the bigger point: We are in THEIR country. We are the occupiers, whether we like to use that word or not, our occupation temporary or not. We MUST act better than we do at home. They already resent us, even though we deposed the tyrant who ruled them so harshly, even if we show them every kindness, simply because we are THERE and they are under our foot, no matter how benevolent it may be. You and I would no doubt feel the same if the situation were reversed.

Can you imagine if Iraqis were occupying America and one of them raped and killed one of our fair 15 year-olds? I suspect you would not be as quick to rationalize if the shoe were on the other foot.
