You've now escalated a conversation which I thought was about establishing points of disagreement to one about patriotism, demonizing the other, and the like. Something's wrong. Yeah, what's wrong is that you've lost the distinction between the point and examples that illustrate the point. That happens on SI a lot. Nothing in my point was about patriotism or demonizing. It was about confusing the method and the objective. My two examples were intended to provide familiar illustrations of the conflation of method and objective.
