Communist China is way ahead of us on global warming and fuel efficiency, but yes their industrial boom is cause for great concern. Yet still the US creates 30% of the world's pollution and CO2 ommissions. That swamps any other country. The biggest problem politically is that when rightwingers come into power, ever since Reagan at least, but especially with Bush-Cheney (two pro-pollution politicians) the first thing they do is cut crucial clean fuels programs, fuel efficiency standards and pollution regulations. That's because they are in bed with the polluters themselves. In other words, they are corrupt. Bush also broke his word on all these issues from his pledges in 2000. One of the biggest lies these creeps tell is that cleaning up our environment will cost jobs or the hurt the economy. On the contrary. If we do it right this could be the biggest jobs creator since the internet. If we do it wrong, Katrina may start looking like a small disaster.
