Yes, but it's a long tough haul. Kyoto was a step forward, whatever has been said here. It's a benchmark, particularly the stated commitment to 1990 levels. That itself is hardly sufficient and, as often remarked, not being observed. But it's important, at least in my view, to have that kind of a standard out there.

The best measure for me will be when candidates from the right can't run on platforms which are skeptical of global warming. Just as no one can run on a racist platform now; nor, for that matter, a sexist one.

Still a ways to go.
