Walmart is a monopoly in any small town they enter. They put every competitor out of business quickly. The local banks immediately mark down the value of all small businesses in town once Walmart arrives. Those small businesses can no longer get loans and they cannot compete with Walmart's prices so they go under. Walmart becomes a monopoly. In large communities Walmart has some competition from Target, K-Mart and 99 cent store, but in smalltown America they wipe everyone else off the map. This is a huge tragedy for the heartland,e specially since Walmart pays sub-par wages with no health benefits.
