It really is as simple as that NL. A MLK, Ghandi or Mandela based movement would have brought them a better outcome than all this violence does and even more important that outcome would have happened decades ago and the country of Palestine might very well be a successful nation at this time.
Regardless of whether israeli reaction is too violent or always necessary, Palestinaian foolishness is the culprit for the most part that causes their woes. The biggest setback to Palestine was Arafats Infidada #2 and now Hamas might top that. Israel is irrelevant to how things turn out for the pals. Pals need to take responsiblity for their stupid behaviour, accept israel, get what they can and move on. That is the case everywhere else in the world at some point in time. All those refugees world wide settled and a few million pals cant move on with their lives.

I don't know why people resort to violence over peaceful protest.

Why didn't the US resort to peaceful diplomacy with Saddam?

Did peaceful protest work for the slaves in the US or was there a war somewhere along the way? How about throwing out the Romans? How long was apartheid in place, 'peacefully' before it was finally overcome and should multiple generations have to live through it before the PR takes hold?

How did Israel become Israel in the first place? Did the powers that be petition the current residents of the area peacefully?
