Why did GM agressively abandon its electric cars?

Because the mass market doesn't want them? Could be... Few people want a vehicle that has limited range and could leave them stuck looking for a power outlet.. Hell, it's hard enough finding some with jumper cables to start a normal car with a dead battery, let alone wait for an entire set of batteries to recharge so the person can make it home.

Which is why the market seemed to find Hybrids an intriguing proposition and GM and other companies have been responding to the market demand.

Maybe you need to go to business school before you start criticizing a corporation because they're not trying to force the public to buy something they don't want.

Why did it sell huge SUVs?

Because people want them and seem willing to pay the additional cost in gasoline and diesel to operate them. But that market is obviously changing rapidly. (btw, I think they were stupid for offering discounted gas as a marketing ploy, but it's evidence that the demand is declining for SUVs).

Why was there enough oil pumped around the world to provide it at $10/bbl?

Supply... demand... simple as that... Of course, we can add in the fact that oil production is globally manipulated by an international cartel known as OPEC. If supply/demand equations were REALLY based upon the free market, countries would be producing their little hearts out to capture more market share. Of course, this has detrimental effects on the longevity of the oil fields do to over-pumping and depletion of well-head pressure. But over time the wisest producers will eventually win the greater market share as the competition is forced to expend resources re-pressurizing their wells.

Btw, oil stocks are at a 20 year high right now. Thus, the OPEC cartel (most of whose members are either pseudo-democratic, or totalitarian regimes) is able to limit production (supply), while demand increases (China/India), and benefit from global tensions from Islamo-Fascist regimes threatening to interdict oil supply lines.

But with the summer driving season fast coming to an end, and the fact that oil usage was lower than expected by analysts, we might be getting ready to see the oil bubble collapse.

Exactly who do you think has more power to control oil, all of the above or Hamas? Your thinking is so off-kilter, you're in danger of going insane.

So why not just let all of these corrupt regimes collapse so that Islamo-Fascists can control 2/3rds of the global oil reserves? I'm sure you'd approve.
