That 16% includes people in sales, people in accounting, and people in all manner of other service jobs who work for companies whose products are delivered in a truck (another service job by the way). Of that 16%, most are in services to the manufacturer and are counted as manufacturing because they receive a paycheck from a firm classified that way. Roughly 5% of all Americans do actual work that might be called 'manufacturing'. 2% are farmers (although that probably overstates farming at this point in time). Everybody else -- and that is almost everybody, is in services.
