5101501 is the basic soft handover patent Filed Nov 89 + 20 years = 2009

In Europe that *might* be true since I believe Europe has always done 'from date of filing'. But it is not true in the US. It is 17 years from issuance for patents in the the early 90's. Not sure precisely when the US switched to 20 years from filing, but by the late 90s at the least.

BTW - I stand corrected (by C2's 2001 post) on the expiration of Soft Handoff - I picked up the Mobile Assisted Soft Handoff (which was about 1 yr later) instead of the Basic Soft Handoff.
