The prez has a press office to deal with such things. Asking the prez or one of his cabinet to officially comment on or repudiate every off the wall comment made by some congress critter is pretty silly, don't you think?

I would think that you, having worked in embassies, would understand that diplomatic efforts at those levels take place behind closed doors, not in the national media.

"Tacit endorsement" or rejection of every spontaneous partisian comment is not the way things are done at an international level. Once again, you are trying to attribute comments of others to Bush, and it just doesn't fly.

Look, I'm no fan of Bush either. I'm also angry about some of the things being done by the intel outfits and the DOJ that are legalized by the so-called "Patriot" (what a misnomer!) Act. But I'm seeing a lot of dogpiling that's going far beyond the bounds of reason, trying to blame things on him that aren't in his control. And some things that are simply being misrepresented to make him look worse than he is. Dislike and disapproval has turned into bashing. Negative comments feed other negative comments, and pretty soon the conversation is so vitriolic that anything resembling reasonable discussion is out the window.
