Despite all the terrible reasons you have those memories, I am sad that my generation and everyone after knows nothing about life with that kind of grit.

Deprivation now is not having a cell phone until you are 12. Salutations to the Greatest Generation, truly....

More vignettes from someone perhaps a taste younger:

The barrage balloons tethered around Boeing in Seattle.

Standing near the end of an around-the-block line waiting to see Pinochio(?) at the Liberty Theater in Seattle. Two swabbies excitedly asked my dad if maybe we were queued to buy nylons.

A tiny rural Seattle grocery was swamped after they advertised marshmallows.
