I'm not a physics whiz. I had one course in high school, and you know how long ago that was. However, I don't think weight has anything to do with it. You need to know mass.

Ignore the wise***es. :-)

Also ignore air resistance. Doing that allows the mass, weight, and shape of the object to be ignored. Then the formula to be used is

s = .5*g*t^2

where s is the height, g is earth's gravitational constant (32 ft/sec^2 or 980 cm/sec^2), and t is the time in seconds. Sonce you expressed the height in feet, we'll use the English measurement system.

500 = .5*32*t^2

t^2 = 500/16 = 31.25

t = 5.59 seconds
