"Length of (healthy) life extends moments of happiness (presuming for the moment that the healthy person is happy, as well)."

I took a walk in a mostly desert foreign country on a popular road which was at one point covered for a quarter of a mile or so to keep the sun off us tourists; but it was still very hot.

There in a median of the road was a shopping cart with a full grown man sitting in it. His feet of course protruded over the edge of the cart and hung down. Those feet were swollen to about ten times the normal size with oozing sores and some thing that looked like the elephant man disease. He was filthy and obviously suffering from what ever illness had caused his condition. He held one hand out to the side.

Obviously someone had pushed his cart there for the purpose of begging.

I'm sure we can all tell tales all day long about the suffering we have witnessed.

The point is we are all going to die, but most of us have some degree of autonomy with regard to life choices. So define for yourself what kind of life you feel is worth living and do it, then die at the end of that. No excuses, no apologies.
