Back to Krugman, I try to avoid attributing motivation. I know I am not a mindreader. I think Krugman was right to criticize the Times's accusers for making imputed motivation the basis of their complaints. I think he was wrong for, in the very same article, imputing motivation, particularly when criticizing the acts provides so much fodder.

Your argument and Shiloh's seem to be one of equivalence, whether one case of imputed motive is stronger than the other or fairer than the other. That is beside the point, IMO. They both impute motive and that is my complaint.
