Clearly, TM is the best-of-breed in the auto sector. But the sector as a whole is under a cloud of doubt because of GM and Ford, and Japanese market is in a pullback. None of these issues should have any long term affect on TM. With a P/E of 14.5 and growth to match, I feel comfortable investing there. Honda (HMC) has a better P/E of 6, but hasn't been showing TM's growth either. Nevertheless, I would consider it 2nd best-of-breed.

Would you still be a buyer of TM at this point?

Sorry for the delay in this response, CR. I just noticed it in my inbox and was out of town for a couple of weeks.

I would sooner own Toyota than almost any company I can think of. The US market is very important to TM so there would be some fallout if the US consumer goes into the toilet. But this would be a buying opportunity. I disagree with the remarks of a previous poster who suggested that Detroit's problems put a cloud over the sector. Detroit's problems are a competitive opportunity for Japan and Korea to gain market share in the American car market, as they have been doing.

I would be a buyer of Toyota at $100, and also a buyer of KF and KEF which give you a reasonable share of Hyundai (and other good companies) at a nice discount to NAV.
