There are some thoughts here on centrism as it applies to values voters, if anyone is interested.

I live on a little-used state hwy that leads to a mountain pass that the bikers love.

A young man and his girlfriend were going probably about 50 mph when their rear tire blew right in front of my place. I was cutting some trees in the front yard and had just shut off the chain saw when I heard the tire blow, then heard the bike hitting the pavement as I ran into the house for my cell phone and then out to the scene. Neither was wearing bike gear, just shorts and T-shirts; at least they had on helmets. He was lying on the shoulder in obvious pain and she was standing, and in hysterics. The bike was in the oncoming lane and still running.

Both had lots of road rash and the boy had a broken little finger. I was expecting much worse.

I live so far out that it took quite some time for the EMTs to arrive. I got some ice cubes and frozen peas to put on his finger and the worst of the abrasions.

He was in shock but she was in hysterics, and asthmatic, so I spent most of the time trying to calm her.

A supposed nurse stopped but started rearranging his limbs, trying to make him more comfortable. I made her stop, wondering what kind of nurse she was. She turned out to be the unemployed kind.

Anyway, no big harm, thank heaven; just some excitement.
