Being in Italy tonight would be fabulous. Italy generally attacked, in my opinion. Any packing it in on defense was caused by the sparkling play up front by France, particularly in the second half.

I think Italy controlled the first half and that the penalty awarded France was not merited. The Guardian in London sees it as a dive and so do I.

Frankly, I think the Italians were tired. Remember, they went extra-time against Germany in that Dortmund madhouse just last Tuesday. Totti never really recovered from his broken foot.

I thought the ragedness of the play by both teams, particularly in the extra-time, was caused by the physical and emotional fatigue of the three previous matches. France had once less day of rest than Italy.

The match had some high points. Buffon's tremendous save late in the game on Zidane's beautiful header may very well have been the save of the tournament. It might also get him the top player award. That should be Buffon, Cannavaro, or Pirlo.

commercial drive - major italian area.

the cops shut the drive down at noon
and at six tonight it was still packed
with people celebrating.

will have been one of the crowd for sure.
her boyfriend is a soccer ref.
