I find it interesting that you would perceive that piece as an attack on Gore.

I didn't read it as an attack on Gore rather I took the "attack" stuff from Alastair's opening lines.

The quote you take from me with the use of "your assertions" refers to Alastair, not the author.

The author sees himself and his friend as attacking what they perceive to be the consensual view, that flows of the gulf stream are responsible for western Europe and England's warmer climates relative to the east coast of the North American continent.

Gore, in the film, reiterates that consensual view which this author is attacking.

I have no problem with either Gore's statements about the effect of the gulf stream nor with this author's piece. Looks to me as if both are science at their best.

If this isn't clear enough, I'll be happy to take another shot at it.
