If one is concerned about global warming, nuclear power makes a lot of sense. It's a proven technology which generates power w/o producing CO2 or methane etc. and we have an electrical grid to distribute the power generated.

the point is to find MANY alternatives including changes in lifestyle --- ya know, like WALKING.

Sure, just tell everyone to start walking to work. That's a real practical idea.

Brazil is energy independent this year.

Hmm, in addition to their sugar-cane based ethanol industry, Brazil has a national oil company which unlike most of that breed behaves like a well-run private international oil company. Petrobas is a big oil and gas producer offshore Africa and in the Gulf of Mexico.

Re. Brazil's ethanol, I wonder how its ethanol industry will adapt when and if international demand for ethanol takes off? Logically, that would require a massive increase in demand - perhaps they could clear the rain forest and turn it all into sugarcane plantations. Or if they can't increase production to match increased international demand, prices of ethanol will rise.

Oh, one other thing about ethanol, it produces CO2 when burned just like other fuels. So one wonders why a global warming alarmist would want to see an expansion of ethanol use?

Plus, increased CO2 is creating more pollen in the air and exacerbating allergies.

Damn plants! :>)
